For a long time, Sauvignon, introduced towards the end of the 19th century from Bordeaux, was considered in South Tyrol to be a ‘stubborn’ white wine, disappointing the expectations of winemakers if grown in unsuitable areas. Especially in warm plains it tends to develop a broad body, lacking in the character.
